About UK Essential Oils

Formally trading as Somaliland Natural Resources (SNR), UK Essential Oils are a specialist resin processor, focusing on the production of Frankincense (Boswelli carterii) & Myrrh (Myrrha Comiphora) essential oils from Somaliland. The oil production is conducted under the ISO9001-2015 certification process to ensure consistent quality.

Navigating through a complex supply chain in conjunction with FAAFCO (Frankincense Association and Fisheries Association), SNR bring to the market a high quality, sustainable supply of Frankincense essential oil.

The FAAFCO is one of the largest co-operatives for frankincense with around 600 individual farmers. This strategic partnership allows SNR to source resin from the Bari and Sanag Region of Puntland & Somaliland, specifically the Jebel Murcanyo Mountains. This mountain range has a unique microclimate and geology, consisting of mainly limestone, shale and sandstone, providing the perfect terrain for the trees root network to thrive. The FAAFCO has also recently introduced eProd software to farmers to help them collect, map and manage data which also allows for direct farmer access and most importantly, traceability. Furthermore, through training and education they also show farmers how to care for their trees and not over produce, yet at the same time not compromising their income potential.

Furthermore in 2019, SNR will gain Organic Certification for their resins from EcoCert covering a vast region of land in the region of Sanag. This will allow for a fully certified organic frankincense and myrrh oil to be introduced to the market from April 2019. This is a significant achievement for SNR and for the people of Somaliland which also marks the start of many additional projects working with the local communities.

The SNR production facility is situated in the North West of England and can toll produce unrivalled volumes of frankincense or myrrh oil within Europe to a client’s specification, along with supplying industry standards from stock.

Frankincense Oil (often referred to as Olibanum) has been a staple ingredient for the perfumery and incense markets for many years and has recently proved to be an invaluable core product for all major aromatherapy brands.
