About Terresans

Terresans S.A. is a Haitian essential oil distillation company specialising in Vetiver (Vetiver zizanioides) and Amyris (Amyris balsamifera). Formerly known as Aromax, the business continues under the same ownership, management, and production expertise, with an ongoing commitment to quality, transparency, and sustainable sourcing.

VETIVER PRODUCTION

Haiti is widely regarded as the global benchmark for high-quality vetiver oil, prized for its rich, woody, earthy profile and exceptional fixative properties in perfumery. Vetiver (Vetiver zizanioides) is cultivated primarily in the south of the country, where the roots are harvested, cleaned, dried, and distilled.

Terresans has made significant investments in its vetiver operations, including upgrading its own distillation facilities and supporting a network of smaller local producers. These investments are focused on improving consistency, traceability, and overall quality, while preserving traditional distillation methods that define the characteristic Haitian vetiver profile.

During the harvest season (typically January to March), production can reach several metric tonnes per month, depending on raw material availability.

PERFUMERY & DERIVATIVES

Vetiver oil is a cornerstone raw material in fine fragrance, valued for its depth, longevity, and versatility across masculine, feminine, and unisex compositions. It is widely used both as a base note and as a natural fixative.

In addition to its direct use, Haitian vetiver oil is particularly well suited for acetylation, a process that converts naturally occurring sesquiterpene alcohols into esters such as Vetiveryl Acetate. This derivative offers a smoother, more refined olfactory profile with enhanced stability, making it a key ingredient in modern perfumery.

The high sesquiterpene alcohol content of Terresans vetiver oil makes it especially effective for this process, optimising yields and ensuring consistent performance for fragrance manufacturers.

AMYRIS PRODUCTION

Amyris balsamifera trees are native to Haiti and grow wild in remote, mountainous regions in the south-east of the country. The wood is only collected once naturally dead and dried, ensuring no active deforestation. It is then transported by mule to collection points before being delivered to the distillation facilities.

Following several years of limited to no production in Haiti, Terresans has re-established Amyris oil production in early 2026. While current volumes are modest, ongoing investment is focused on rebuilding capacity in a controlled and sustainable manner. At present, Terresans may be one of the only active producers of Amyris oil in Haiti.

The dried wood yields approximately 2–4% essential oil. Amyris oil is produced via a continuous steam distillation process lasting up to one week, resulting in a consistent, high-quality product. Terresans works closely with local farmers and collectors, paying a premium price—often in advance—to ensure ethical sourcing practices and to remove any incentive for unsustainable harvesting.

INVESTMENT & DEVELOPMENT

Terresans continues to invest in its production infrastructure, sustainability initiatives, and product development. This includes the introduction of new derivatives and extracts such as Vetiver Hydro-diffused and Vetiver CO₂, alongside ongoing improvements to distillation efficiency and quality control.

Through its long-standing partnership with Jandico Limited, Terresans products are supplied to the European market via local stockholding and direct shipment, ensuring reliable supply chains and responsive service.

Terresans quality is increasingly recognised across the fragrance industry for its authentic Haitian vetiver profile and consistent performance in both perfumery and derivative applications.
